Passing as Male for FTMs / Re: Stress Dreams Related to Passing?
« Last post by procrastinating_lime on December 10, 2017, 06:15:45 pm »
I had a dream in which my top surgery went terribly wrong and my chest was still not flat. I wasn't recognized as male in the dream though, which made me extremely uncomfortable. The night before I was looking at top surgery results and I was really hopeful about my (future) procedure. I hate these dreams so much.

Chest Binding for FTMs / Alternative Binding Techniques
« Last post by procrastinating_lime on December 09, 2017, 12:20:32 pm »
Even if you can't get a binder (money, not "out", etc.) There are several alternative binding techniques that can help get rid of some dysphoria.

1. Double Sports Bra
This is probably the most common method, but it works pretty well (at least it did for me)
Put on one sports bra, and than another on top of it (of course taking the padding out before putting them on). I suggest putting one on backwards, but it can also work of you don't do that.
This is one method that I used all the time, and it worked pretty well, but it might not be the best option for FtMs with larger chests.

2. Layering Shirts
Best used in the winter time.
Usually, 3 shirts works for me, but you might need 2-4 depending on your chest size

3. Folded Camisole
Wear a camisole and fold the bottom over your chest. You might want to wear an extra shirt over this to make your chest appear even flatter.
This didn't work for me, but would be great for anyone with small breasts.

4. Pantyhose
I haven't tried this, and it isn't as common as the ones above. But one of my friends does this and he recommended I put this on the list.
Get a pair of pantyhose, cut the legs off and cut a hole in the crotch area. Put it on like you would put on a pair of pants.
If you still want need a flatter chest, wear an extra shirt over it.

Don't combine these methods, and don't bind for more than 8 hours (pantyhose method only 4 hours).
Do NOT use ace bandages or duct tape, this is said so much but it's extremely important.

Stay safe my man ❤

Passing as Male for FTMs / Stress Dreams Related to Passing?
« Last post by itsmematthewc on December 08, 2017, 08:32:02 am »
This is weird, since I do pass well in public and always wear a binder and packer whenever I can, but last night I had a stress dream where I just wasn't wearing a binder or a packer at all (I think I had forgot to in the dream or something). It wasn't necessarily about me not passing, as everyone still recognized me as male in the dream, but more about me being really dysphoric and not passing in my own opinion because I wasn't binding or packing. Now I'm not one for dream interpretation that much, but when it comes to stress dreams like this, I think this was more about my dysphoria and a sort of "What if I forgot to bind/pack?" and freaking out about that scenario. Sorry if this was a really weird post, lol, especially since I haven't posted in a long while. I just wanted to know if anyone else has had a similar experience.

HRT Results / Voice Changes 1 Year on T Video (From Youtube Channel)
« Last post by itsmematthewc on October 28, 2017, 06:01:53 pm »
In case anyone finds it helpful, I'll post my video from my channel showing my voice changes over 1 year on T:

https://youtu.be/os6FAf4nyXI

Since I'm more comfortable showing my face now, I might post photos documenting the course of my transition later (though it'd take me a lot of time to dig up my pre-transition photos and I didn't consciously take photos over the course of my transition, so it'd take a while to do).

There's certainly a possibility you can get an Adam's apple and an adult male voice on T, especially since you started under 21. Though I started T at a younger age, I started growing an Adam's apple and getting a significantly lower voice withing 4-5 months on T. And you shouldn't worry if the changes are coming at a slower pace- from what I understand, though the biggest changes come in at 2 years, it takes 5 years for all of the changes to fully set in. If you're really worried about your changes on T you can talk to your endocrinologist and make sure you're on the right dosage, or your maximum dosage if you've moved up to that.

I started T when i was 18 years old and I am now 20. Males are supposed to get adams apples during puberty but I don't have even a mildly visible one. My voice also sounds like an average 13 year old boy (i don't really like that. I want to sound normal for my age. There are also trans men in their 40s that i have met that still sound that young), so the hard part of my larynx is probably very small.

I read that a part of the human larynx is made out of some sort of cartilage that eventually hardens at an age past 21 years (but that could just be for biological males). Is it possible that while my body was estrogen-dominated it hardened early? Is that why most ftm voices on testosterone i've heard sound under 16 even after many years? Will I sound 13 for the rest of my life and never get an adams apple, something that every healthy male has?

Passing as Male for FTMs / Re: The wrong kind of compliments making dysphoria worse
« Last post by idontknow on October 26, 2017, 09:03:58 pm »
I haven't had those sorts of compliments after coming out, but before coming out my mom teased me about some of my features being small. I was told my nose is so small that it's a wonder that I can even breathe and i was called "little hands" and compared to the snl(?) character with the plastic baby doll hands.

They were meant as playful compliments, as it's considered desirable for females to have small and dainty features. But it now makes me scared that i might not pass that well since it was heavily implied that my hands are small even for female standards (they are in fact smaller than my mom's and sister's hands). Having been told about these things made me hyper-aware of them.

Yeah, it might be perceived as a "triggered" thing, but its common for some people to be insecure about certain features. So long as you don't give the people who complimented you a hard time about it and know they only had good intentions.

Yeah, I could make a video to re-advertise it. I just don't want to feel like I'm shilling it too much haha. But I do agree restarting it won't do anything to help, so I shouldn't do that.

I definitely hope you don't close it down, I've been looking for a forum like this for a while. It's refreshing to see a community, however small it is, that doesn't tie transgender problems into politics. I wanted to join it a few months ago but forgot about it, so I'm happy that there's at least one semi-recent post here that I don't feel weird about randomly responding to, haha. But I'd focus less on the size and more on just getting a small but involved community running. I think inviting more people would be a good idea. Were you ever planning on making a video to advertise it as well? Since you usually just add a link to it in your video descriptions I can see why not many people would notice it. I know you're on a bit of a hiatus right now due to just being busy with life and all, but if you ever wanted to re-boot it in the future I think just a short video would be worth it. The common user of Youtube is famously known to not really check descriptions, unfortunately.

Edit: You did make a video about it in February, just noticed that, whoops. But you also had a lot less subs back then, now that you have over 3k I'm sure you'd get more people now.

I'm not sure how starting over is going to bring more people to the forum.
